The inspiration behind it came from two memorable experiences: the first during a trip to Brazil, where the Nose encountered the exotic scent of the munguba flower, which he sought to recreate. The second — an unexpected sensory jolt at a hospital. In a sterile, odorless space, the sudden arrival of richly scented flowers brought in by a visitor overwhelmed the room with their sweetness — a fragrant slap to the senses.
