In 1988, Dominique and I met at Roure Bertrand. He struck me as a free spirit even then. His incredible skill enabled any perfumery whim to come to life. We sometimes dare to begin working on a fragrance without a precise plan or objective, trusting our research. One such adventure led to the creation of Portrait of a Lady. We are both huge fans of Geranium pour Monsieur. Its fresh composition forms a chord we hold dear, so when building a new amber perfume, we chose to utilize that chord. Thus, benzoin, musk, sandalwood, and patchouli formed the heart of the new scent. Portrait of a Lady is the result of an ambitious reinterpretation of the amber category, with patchouli—making up a third of the fragrance—creating richness; white musk adding femininity and a distinctive essence from 400 Turkish rose buds. – Frédéric Malle How to apply: Apply to wrists, neck, and pulse points so the body’s warmth helps the fragrance unfold and stay with you until evening.
