The collaboration between Issey Miyake and Apple has resulted in the iPhone Pocket, a 3D-knitted rectangular holder for daily items. The design stems from the concept of “a piece of cloth” and features a ribbed, open structure that recalls Miyake’s Pleats Please line.
Crafted in Japan, the item acts as an additional pocket. It is large enough to hold an iPhone but is also made to expand for other essentials. The open textile can be stretched, allowing a subtle peek at the phone’s display or the bag’s other contents.
The iPhone Pocket is available in two models. One has a short strap, which can be looped around the wrist or tied to a bag, and is offered in eight colors. The other has a long strap for shoulder or cross-body wear and comes in three colors.
“The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use,” said Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’ The simplicity of its design echoes what we practice at Issey Miyake — the idea of leaving things less defined to allow for possibilities and personal interpretation.”

The iPhone Pocket will be available on November 14. It can be found at select Apple Store locations and on the Apple webstore. The short strap version is priced at $149.95 USD, and the long strap is $229.95 USD.
