Sofia Coppola curates a 448 page visual story of Chanel couture from Gabrielle to Viard, out worldwide this September.
Chanel has announced the release of CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE, a book edited by Sofia Coppola in collaboration with the house and Éditions 7L.
The filmmaker’s relationship with Chanel began when she was fifteen, spending a summer inside the creation studio at rue Cambon. That early internship set the tone for a long exchange that would include decades of projects and personal ties. This new book is the latest chapter, one shaped by Coppola’s instinctive approach to collage and storytelling.
Across 448 pages, CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE brings together archival photographs, rarely seen sketches, runway images, and behind the scenes material. The timeline runs from Gabrielle Chanel’s earliest collections through Karl Lagerfeld’s era and into Virginie Viard’s present. Friends of the house and models from each decade appear in the designs, captured by leading photographers of their time.
The design was conceived with Anamaria Morris for Joseph Logan Design, with co-publication by Éditions 7L and Important Flowers, Coppola’s imprint at MACK. Every detail, from pacing to layout, reflects a considered treatment of the archive.
The book will be available worldwide on September 8, 2025. With its scale, depth, and Coppola’s distinctive sequencing, CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE feels less like a retrospective and more like a living document of the house’s couture language.
