The artist and designer Yinka Ilori has partnered with M.A.D.Editions, the sister brand of MB&F, for a new watch series. Titled M.A.D.1S “Grow Your Dreams,” the collection applies Ilori’s colorful aesthetic to a trio of timepieces.
The collection centers on a tree motif and is guided by Ilori’s mantra, “Grow Your Dreams.” The three designs correspond to three natural elements: Sun, Nature, and Water. Each is a limited edition of 400 pieces.
While the watches use the Swiss-made LaJoux-Perret G101 movement from the original M.A.D.1S, the design has been modified. The rotor is now slimmer, made from anodized titanium, and engraved with a tree motif on each blade. The rotor’s color corresponds to the watch’s theme: yellow for Sun, green for Nature, and blue for Water.
The color combinations are specific to each model. The “Sun” watch has a purple time display, a yellow rotor, and is paired with a yellow and green rubber strap. “Nature” features a red display, a green rotor, and a purple and red strap. The “Water” model uses a light blue barrel for its display, a blue rotor, and comes on a dark and light blue strap. An additional white rubber strap is included with each watch.
This series marks the first time M.A.D.Editions has put color inside the bezel. A machined groove is filled with HyCeram, a liquid ceramic that is heat-hardened and then hand-polished. Other details include a baseplate stamped with a wave-like texture, numerals on the time display designed by Ilori, and his name on the barrel plate. The phrase “Grow Your Dreams” is applied with Super-LumiNova®, making it visible in the dark.
The watch measures 42mm by 15mm thick and has a 68-hour power reserve. The release is managed through a raffle, with entries open from Tuesday, September 2nd, until Monday, September 8th.
