Carine Roitfeld

Carine Roitfeld has been one of the defining figures in modern fashion. Born in Paris in 1954, she began her career as a model at eighteen before moving into styling and writing for French Elle. Her early editorial work revealed a sharp instinct for narrative and image-making that would later define her influence.

Her collaboration with photographer Mario Testino in the 1990s led to major campaigns for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent under Tom Ford, setting the tone for a new era of provocative luxury. In 2001, Roitfeld was named editor in chief of Vogue Paris. During her ten years at the magazine, she established a distinct visual identity known for its confidence and bold storytelling, cementing her reputation as one of fashion’s most original voices.

After leaving Vogue Paris in 2011, she founded CR Fashion Book, a biannual publication that blends editorial and artistic direction. She later became Global Fashion Director for Harper’s Bazaar editions worldwide, extending her influence across continents. Her collaborations have included projects with MAC Cosmetics, Uniqlo, and Chanel, each reflecting her ability to bring a sense of personality to global brands.

In 2019, she launched her fragrance line, 7 Lovers, a collection of gender-neutral perfumes inspired by cities and relationships. In 2023, she released a book titled Fantasies, revisiting images and ideas from throughout her career. Most recently, Roitfeld co-curated Vogue World: Paris 2024 with Ib Kamara, an event celebrating fashion through decades of French culture.
