Roksanda Ilinčić, the Serbian-born, London-based designer, has carved a niche in contemporary fashion with her bold use of color, architectural silhouettes, and a commitment to empowering femininity. After studying architecture and design at the University of Arts in Belgrade, she pursued an MA in Womenswear at Central Saint Martins in London, graduating in 1999. In 2005, she launched her eponymous label, ROKSANDA, debuting at London Fashion Week. Her designs, characterized by vibrant hues and sculptural forms, quickly gained acclaim, dressing notable figures such as Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge.
Ilinčić’s design philosophy intertwines her architectural background with a deep appreciation for art and emotion. Her collections often feature unexpected color combinations and voluminous shapes, reflecting influences from modernist artists and her Serbian heritage. Collaborations with institutions like the Royal Opera House and brands such as Lululemon and Other Stories have expanded her reach, bringing her distinctive aesthetic to diverse audiences. In 2014, she opened her flagship store in London’s Mayfair, designed in collaboration with architect David Adjaye, further cementing her brand’s presence in the luxury fashion landscape.
Despite facing financial challenges in 2023, leading to the sale of her brand to The Brand Group, Ilinčić remains at the helm as creative director, focusing on sustainable growth and global expansion. Her contributions to fashion have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Red Carpet Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2012 and the British Designer of the Year at the Elle Style Awards in 2016.
