Gucci returns as presenting sponsor as LACMA honors ‘Sinners’ director Ryan Coogler and artist Mary Corse at the Art+Film Gala.

Gucci will once again back LACMA’s Art+Film Gala, with Ryan Coogler and Mary Corse set as this year’s honorees. The fourteenth edition lands on Saturday, November 1, co-chaired by Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Corse’s paintings have long made viewers do the work. The Los Angeles artist, associated with Light and Space, builds fields that shift as you move, often using glass microspheres to catch and throw light. Her survey traveled from the Whitney to LACMA in 2018 to 2019, a nod to a career that has stayed experimental and precise.
Coogler needs little introduction. From Fruitvale Station to Creed to Black Panther, he staked out mainstream space on his own terms, then returned this spring with Sinners, a 1930s vampire thriller fronted by Michael B. Jordan. His Proximity Media continues to push projects that center new voices, including the Oscar-winning Judas and the Black Messiah.

Gucci has underwritten the gala since its start in 2011, a partnership that turned LACMA’s fundraiser into one of the city’s defining fashion nights. Proceeds support the museum’s film initiatives along with exhibitions, acquisitions, and education.
Expect a museum-meets-movie crowd, the house’s eveningwear on heavy rotation, and a program that nods to both honorees. LACMA Productions will debut a new short on Corse, directed by Alysa Nahmias, continuing the institution’s habit of putting artists on screen for the occasion.
