Technics, a brand known since 1965 for its SL-1200 turntables and home sound systems, is now directing its audio engineering toward personal listening. The company’s latest product, the EAH-AZ100.
At the core of the EAH-AZ100 is a newly developed Magnetic Fluid Driver. The technology uses an oil-based liquid with magnetic particles injected between the driver magnet and voice coil, a method intended to produce clean, low-distortion sound. An aluminum diaphragm aids in sound separation, while an ultra-thin free edge is built for bass reproduction. The goal is to present recordings true to the original source. The audio experience is further shaped by Dolby Atmos integration and Dolby Head Tracking, which recalibrates sound based on the listener’s head movements to create a 360-degree sound field.

Beyond music playback, the earbuds incorporate features for communication and concentration. Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology adjusts its level based on the surrounding environment and the shape of the user’s ear, working to reduce low to mid-range frequencies and vocal noises. For calls, a feature called Voice Focus AI uses an AI noise reduction chip and three microphones in each earbud to analyze incoming sound and reduce background interference from things like street traffic or wind. Technics also introduced three-device multipoint connectivity, allowing the earbuds to connect to a laptop, tablet, and smartphone at the same time.

The physical design of the earbuds has also been addressed. The EAH-AZ100 has an ergonomic, concha-fit shape that is 10% slimmer and 16% lighter than previous models. A fifth ear tip size, ML, has been added to the existing options to help users find a secure fit. To mark the company’s 60th anniversary, Technics released new colorways. Options now include Champagne Gold and Midnight Blue, in addition to the original black and silver. The packaging for the new models is 100% plastic-free.
