The heritage German luggage-maker returns to Madison Avenue with archival pieces, a modern redesign, and a limited-edition suitcase inspired by New York’s iconic taxis.

Rimowa’s new Madison Avenue boutique is officially open at 535 Madison Avenue, marking the luggage brand’s largest flagship store in North America. Redesigned by Porto Architecture, the two-level space feels contemporary and unmistakably German, thoughtfully reflecting Rimowa’s longstanding commitment to craftsmanship.
The building’s façade, custom-designed with Rimowa’s distinctive grooved aluminum, provides visitors with a stylish shelter from Madison Avenue’s busy sidewalks. Located directly adjacent to Christie’s Sculpture Garden, the boutique occupies a prominent position within Manhattan’s cultural landscape.

Inside, Porto Architecture leaned into German modernism, incorporating soft curves, matte surfaces, and textural details throughout the boutique. A curated selection of archival luggage cases, including rare trunks that originally passed through Ellis Island, share the space alongside current collections. Modular presentation tables are positioned for easy browsing and wheel-testing on textured flooring. Shoppers can personalize luggage tags and accessories instantly at a complimentary heat-embossing station.

Walnut wood accents toward the rear of the boutique welcome customers into Rimowa’s dedicated client-care area. In-house specialists provide immediate repairs, reinforcing Rimowa’s lifetime guarantee available on suitcases purchased after July 25, 2022.
Adding a sense of playfulness, the boutique features a sticker wall showcasing collectible designs created by international artists, including an exclusive sticker made specifically for New York City. The boutique also highlights Rimowa’s core suitcase collections, such as the Original, Classic, and Hybrid, which rest on eco-leather shelving.

To commemorate the flagship’s opening, Rimowa has introduced a limited-edition Original Cabin Monogram suitcase available only at this location. Featuring an oversized yellow monogram inspired by New York City taxis and nightlife, the case includes laser-etched store coordinates as a subtle tribute to Manhattan.
