Summary

  • Zenith has announced the fourth watch in its Lupin The Third collaboration, a 200-piece limited model named the Chronomaster Revival Daisuke Jigen Edition.
  • The partnership stems from a fictional, Zenith-inspired watch worn by the character Daisuke Jigen in the 1971 anime series, which the brand first brought to life in 2019.
  • The new 37mm watch is made from matte black microblasted titanium and features a beige dial with black counters, referencing Jigen’s aesthetic from the series.

Zenith’s dialogue with the Lupin The Third universe continues. The brand has just announced its fourth piece from the collaboration, this time focusing entirely on the anime’s gunman, Daisuke Jigen. The new watch, the Chronomaster Revival Daisuke Jigen Edition, translates his animated timepiece into a physical object.

The watch uses the 37mm tonneau-shaped case of the A384, but rendered in matte black microblasted titanium, a finish that recalls Jigen’s signature charcoal suit. It’s a limited run of 200 pieces. The dial is distinct from its predecessors: a warm beige base with contrasting black chronograph counters and a black tachymeter scale. The hands and applied markers use beige Super-LumiNova, giving the watch a faded, vintage look, almost like a 1970s anime still.

The connection between Zenith and Lupin The Third is specific and dates back decades. In 1969, Zenith introduced its El Primero automatic chronograph caliber inside the A384 model. Just two years later, the Japanese anime series began, and the character Jigen (Lupin’s partner) was drawn wearing a watch that looked just like the A384, but with dial variations that Zenith had never actually produced. On two occasions, he wore one with a black dial and one with a silver “panda” dial.

This bit of animation trivia became the basis for the collaboration, which started in 2019. The first edition was a 50-piece steel model with the fictional black dial. A 200-piece “panda” dial followed in 2020. In 2021, a third edition, called the “Final Edition,” merged both fictional designs onto one asymmetrical face.

This fourth edition, however, is the first dedicated to Jigen himself. Inside the lightweight titanium case is the El Primero 400 caliber, a descendant of the 1969 original that offers tenth-of-a-second precision and a 50-hour power reserve. The watch is paired with a matching titanium ladder bracelet, a design based on the 1969 Gay Frères original. The sapphire caseback features a subtle silhouette of Jigen, hat and cigarette included.

The 200-piece edition will be available first at an Isetan Shinjuku pop-up on November 19, followed by a global release on November 26.
